I think it was the thought of writing about Davison stories that put me off writing this blog a bit. I've never disliked Davison as such but his stories always struck me as universally "Meh".
But there were a few surprises in there (as the scores may tell) but the era as a whole and Davison's very vanilla performances never urged me to start writing...
Four to Doomsday - 3 - Bilge.
Kinda - 9 - Dark and complex.
The Visitation - 5 - Mediocrity personified.
Black Orchid - 10 - Old school historical. Perfect length, beautifully done.
Earthshock - 8 - Solid Cybermen story boosted by a shocking ending.
Time-Flight - 5 - More mediocrity.
Arc of Infinity - 6 - Omega, so vaguely interesting, and Colin Baker being Shakespearian. Apart from that, 'meh'.
Snakedance - 4 - Dull.
Mawdryn Undead - 10 - Intricate, clever, The Brigadier, dark. Brilliant, utterly brilliant.
Terminus - 7 - Dark and weird but never lives up to it's potential.
Enlightenment - 7 - Clever idea but never hits the heights of Mawdryn.
The King's Demons - 7 - Interesting ideas and Master stuff but not too bad.
The Five Doctors - 9 - Classic stuff. Anniversary awesomeness. Sarah Jane, Brigadier, Troughton, it goes on and on and brilliantly scripted to boot.
Warriors of the Deep - 6 - Not bad, not great, it just... is...
The Awakening - 7 - See above...
Frontios - 9 - Dark and dystopian.
Resurrection of the Daleks - 8 - Quentin Tarantino does Who. Quality.
Planet of Fire - 7 - Quite odd but not too bad.
The Caves of Androzani - 8 - Good ending and a decent performance from Davison. Dark and compelling.
So. Sorry, Peter. There were great stories in there but your Doctor just doesn't do it for me. Too nice. If I want to someone to take home to my mum, he's in, but he's not my choice for salvation of the universe...
