The Doctor and Sarah-Jane arrive on Earth. Only it’s not Earth, it’s a staging post for an alien invasion – I quite like that idea and it leads to an interesting set up as we try and work out what the hell is going on.
The opening scenes are very nice… Lovely village and it all becomes very mysterious very quickly.
We get a few old faces in the form of the android replicants wandering around but it is a bit of a shame that for Harry and Benton’s last story they spend most of their time being very wooden – it’s obviously called for in the part but for two such great companions to make a return only to be used in that way (and on their last outings) is a bit of a shame.
That said, it doesn’t detract from the story which is quite an interesting yarn and develops at quite a healthy pace.
It is very well scripted with some great quips about tea and muffins and loaded fingers.
The story does end with a slight absurdity as a chap who’s spent the entire story wearing an eye patch suddenly discovers his eye was there and fine all along. It's a shame as up until then the story is very enjoyable but that does tarnish it all a little.
Not a bad story, by any means, but is slightly shown up by some of the truly great stories surrounding it.
7/10
