There are some stories you know are coming up and are dreading. A bit like a visit to the dentists or the prospect of having to wallpaper a very large room. This is one such story.
The principle of the story is interesting enough – We have a planet that has been colonised and a mining company that want to exploit the planet for minerals. So there is some potential to build a story about the desire for minerals to use as the tools of progress versus the rights of the residents. And it’s even fairly relevant today, with fracking on the agenda.
But it’s just so tediously handled. The miners try and scare the colonists away and then they try and use paperwork to do it.
The Doctor feels quite peripheral in it all. He’s just wandering around getting in the way until The Master shows up and even then he does very little other than accidentally help The Master out a bit. He’s also pretty poorly scripted. At one stage he is sentenced to death by the planet’s native race for some piffling nothing of a crime but when he is allowed to leave he is just pitifully grateful of the leader of the race. They just sentenced you to death for nothing, pal, don’t start on about hiw just they are.
Over long, uninteresting plot and a script that could be used to cure insomnia. This is just a dull story and I really can’t be arsed writing any more about it.
3/10
